FAQ 1:What sort of zones does ProtoZONE work with?
ProtoZONE is designed to read only plates with zones around antibiotic disks. If you have plates with zones but with no antibiotic disks, then you need ProtoCOL SR or HR.
FAQ 2:How do I get the results out of ProtoZONE?
There are a variety of methods. The most popular is to use the instant link to Excel (Edit Menu...Copy to Excel..this automatically starts Excel, creates a sheet and downloads the results). For labs with LIMS, all results can be downloaded through the RS232 port for instant processing on 3rd party software. ProtoZONE is often supplied with a printer allowing results sheets, excel spreadsheets and images of the plates to be printed. ProtoZONE can be fully networked so that files can be stored off-line at the user's convenience.
FAQ 3:How often do you have to calibrate ProtoZONE?
Because ProtoZONE uses a CCD imaging device located at a fixed height above the sample with a fixed focus lens, the system need only be calibrated once when first installed. Routine checks with standard sized objects will confirm that the calibration has not deviated.
FAQ 4:How quickly can ProtoZONE make measurements?
The system hardware is constantly benefiting from improved computer performance so it is likely that the speed quoted is even faster in the current generation of instruments. ProtoZONE is the fastest reader ever developed, timed at 1.6 seconds to measure 6 zones on a dish and to display the results in a table (March 2001). Loading times are also immediate because the sample holder is completely unobstructed with no doors or drawers to load.
FAQ 5:How much do software upgrades cost?
They are free, for as long as the user's ProtoZONE hardware and operating system is compatible.
FAQ 6:How can I sterilise the unit?
The plate holder is easily removable for cleaning and the surfaces surrounding the plate holder are smooth, groove free and easy to clean with antiseptic wipes.
FAQ 7:Can I count colonies with ProtoZONE?
Yes, users can purchase the complete ProtoCOL software to create a dual purpose instrument ideal for every lab.
FAQ 8:Can ProtoZONE be used to measure zones of haemolysis or diffusion, where a hole has been cut in the agar?
No, you must use ProtoCOL or AutoZONE for this application. ProtoZONE can ONLY be used for measuring zones around white antibiotic disks.
